How to Choose an Oak Glued Panel
Oak furniture panels come in a huge variety — for example, Stragendo offers over 400 different oak panel options.
With so much choice, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. To make the right decision, ask yourself the following questions:
1. What will the oak glued panel be used for?
Planning a kitchen countertop? A finger-jointed panel is a practical and stable option.
Making stairs? Go for a edge-glued panel for visual appeal.
(Not sure about the difference? Check out our article on finger-jointed vs. solid panels.)
2. How important is a consistent wood texture?
If you want a clean, uniform look, choose AB-grade wooden glued panels — ideal for modern, minimal interiors.
Prefer a more natural, rustic feel with knots and variation? Then Rustic or BC-grade panels are a great choice.
3. Do you need more than one piece?
If you're working on multiple items — like a countertop, windowsill, and wall cladding — consider buying larger panels.
For example, a panel measuring 960×4500 mm gives you the flexibility for several DIY projects, with fewer joins and less waste.
4. How thick should the panel be?
o For a light, minimalist look: choose 20–25 mm.
o For solid, chunky furniture: 38–45 mm is ideal.
o 27–30 mm is a popular middle ground — it looks substantial but not bulky.
Oak is unique in offering such a wide range of sizes, textures, and formats. Use this to your advantage: choose an oak glued panel that suits your exact needs, reduces waste, and fits your project perfectly.
