The Caucasus is the name of the region of the mountain range bearing the same name. The Caucasus Mountains pass through several countries, including Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.
Stragendo material comes from the Russian Caucasus (North Caucasus).
Depending on the altitude and distance, the vegetation in the Caucasus differs.
At the top there are coniferous forests, below, 1400-1500 meters above sea level there are beech forests. Even lower are wild fruit species such as forest pear, forest apple, and cherry plum.
Oak grows in regions adjacent to the mountains. This region has a suitable climate, with the warm black sea and westerly winds bringing moisture.
Mainly two types of oak grow here, the pedunculate oak and the rock oak. The special climatic conditions and soil make the oak growing here unlike either European or American oaks. When oiled or varnished, the texture comes through and the color changes from light to dark. In general, Caucasian oak is darker than standard European and American oaks.
