What is the difference between awood detail and wood products? The differenceisin the coating. Wood coatingis one of the most important stages increating furniture or decor.
At first glance, coating wood looks simple enough, just wet the cloth with a solution and smear it on. However, to get a product to be proud of, you need to make some extra efforts.
Coating Processes
First, the coating starts with pre-sanding (and puttying, if necessary). The surface is thoroughly sanded so that the coating bonds better to the surface.
Next, we apply the first coat. This includes primer, base stain or oil, depending on the end goal. After the solutions have been applied to the surface, the wood becomes rough, and the so-called pile rises. You can fix this problem by sanding it again with a fine sandpaper. The roughness is gone and an even surface is obtained.
Then a second coat is applied. After a second coat, the pile no longer rises because the first coat is absorbed into the surface and binds the fibers that were previously raised.
Complex Colors
To achieve complex colors, with relief and patina effects, it is necessary to repeat such processes at least 2-3 times.
To obtain this color, we have performed: 1) beitz (stain), 2) oil coating, 3) sanding, 4) white patina coating, 5) sanding, 6) finishcoating.
In addition, the hard part of the work is finding the colors that will give the right combination. So in this case, it took me two working days to find the right color.
Now you understand why the coating is such a difficult and costly part of the job, and why complex color coatings are more expensive.
